Introducing This Month at the Academy

We are delighted to share a gentle new addition to the Prepared for the Storm Academy: a seasonal hub called This Month at the Academy. It gathers, in one simple place, the handful of things worth turning your attention to right now, so a self-reliant, God-honoring home always knows what to do next.

Why a Monthly Rhythm?

Self-reliance can feel overwhelming when we look at everything at once. But a homestead has always moved to a rhythm, one month sowing, another preserving, another resting and planning by the fire. When we follow that rhythm, the work becomes light and joyful rather than anxious. This new hub is simply that rhythm, laid out month by month.

What You Will Find Each Month

Open This Month at the Academy and the current month is highlighted for you. For every month you will see four gentle prompts:

• What to sow — a short summary, with a link straight to the matching month in our Seed Sowing Calendar for the full detail.
• What to preserve and store — the fruits, herbs and harvests worth putting by while they are at their best.
• A skill to practise — one practical, seasonal skill to grow in, from compost and rainwater to canning, seed saving and blackout readiness.
• A scripture to carry — a verse and a short spiritual focus to steady the heart through the season.

You can move freely between the months too, to look ahead and prepare, or look back and catch up on anything you missed.

Written for Your Climate, Adaptable to Others

Like our Seed Sowing Calendar, the rhythm is written for a temperate Central European climate. If you live somewhere warmer, you can generally run a few weeks earlier; in colder or higher regions, a few weeks later. Whatever your season, the shape of the year, sow, tend, gather, store, rest, stays the same.
