How Heritage Seeds Europe works

The platform is simple by design. You can browse the network to see the seeds growers are offering or looking for, filter by country and variety, and explore the map. When you find a match, you can message the grower directly and privately through the platform, so your personal details stay safe within your account. If you have seed to share or you are searching for a particular variety, you can add your own listing in a few minutes.

We keep a warm eye on the network. Listings are reviewed before they appear, our shared guidelines encourage honest, generous and lawful exchange, and everything is framed with care for local growing conditions and cross-border rules. This is a place to give and receive in good conscience.

How messaging between growers works

Every listing has a simple "Message the grower" panel, and it is built to protect everyone while making it easy to connect. Here is how it works. First, sign in to your account, then open the listing you are interested in and write a short note, letting the grower know what you can offer or what you hope to find. You also enter the email address where you would like to receive a reply, which we fill in from your account so it is ready in one tap, though you are free to change it.

When you send the note, the platform delivers it privately by email to the grower who posted the listing. Your message arrives in their inbox, and they can reply straight back to the email address you provided, so the conversation continues directly between the two of you, just like any ordinary email. No personal email addresses are ever shown on the public page. Nobody browsing the site can see who is talking to whom, or harvest addresses from your listing. The platform simply makes the first introduction, and then steps quietly out of the way so real relationships can form.

This gentle design keeps you in control. You decide when to reply, what to share, and how to arrange the exchange, whether that is a local handover, a swap at a market, or seeds sent by post. It is the digital version of a friendly word across the garden fence.

Growing beyond Europe

We begin in Europe because that is where this community is taking root today. But our hope reaches further.
